![]() ![]() įortunately, Synology has recently added SharePoint to the list of supported connectors for Cloud Sync. Synology Cloud Sync offers sync ing with OneDrive (or Dropbox, or whatever) too, but the problem with that option is that those accounts are always “person- bound ”, and using shared accounts is very often a tricky thing to do. A lso, Azure Storage is not really meant for browsing photos, it is meant – well, for storage, of course. However, with using this system, I always felt there was s o m ething missing, namely that I could not browse my photos when I was not on the home network, since Synology does not allow connect ing with public networks. I f your preference is to go with any other could storage provider, the procedure is very much the same.Īrchiving the photos on Azure fits the backup purpose, and I know that my photos will be automatically stored safe in Azure’s data cent re (s). Yes, I am aware that there are other storage options available in Cloud Sync, such as AWS and Rackspace, but I already had an Azure subscription ( an yone without one can easily make one with the “pay-per-go” option a t no fixed costs), so I prefer to use that. Now, Azure S torage is a very cheap and a very solid backup option. For quite some time now, there has been a Microsoft Azure Storage connector within that app. Luckily, with Synology, there is an app called “Cloud Sync”. Everyone who has lost precious family photos before knows how difficult that can be and wants to protect against it. While RAID 1 provides data redundancy and protection if there is a failure of one drive, what if both drives fail – or what if there is a breach in the house, and someone steals the NAS, or if there is a fire (our neighbo u r’s house burned down two years ago, so it can happen! ). Forget? Well not really, in truth, I don ’ t have that luxury. Once I am done with that, I copy the cleaned up and sorted photos to my Synology NAS, which has two HDDs in RAID 1, and then I forget all about it. ![]() During the holiday season, I usually download all those photos, merge them with the photos taken with “ proper ” camera s, delete any bad shots and duplicates, rename them in a uniform way, and finally tag those photos with people, places, and situations that I will be unlikely to remember in 20- or 30-years’ time. Since we us e a wild mix of iOS and Android devices at home, all the photos taken with th o se devices are usually synced to one Microsoft OneDrive private account, since that is the one that works everywhere. I n my family, it is usually my task, and it tends to hit around holiday season. O rganizing and archiving photos (and other documents for that matter) is a “pain ful task” for many people. This short article answer s many of the questions that were asked there.
